It’s the Perfect Time for an A/C Tune up

With the high temperatures and muggy humidity of summer just around the corner, now’s the ideal time to make sure your air conditioner is ready to see some action. These appliances do more than create instant relief from the brutal heat. They also improve the air quality of your home. For those with allergy or respiratory issues, you know that your air conditioner is an essential addition to your house that protects you from humidity, smog, and potentially dangerous airborne particles like dust, allergens, and mould.

As the mercury climbs in Southwestern Ontario, you’ll start to hear the hum of these appliances throughout your neighbourhood. Roughly half of all homes across the country have some sort of air conditioning system installed, and Ontario has the 2nd highest concentration of these appliances in the nation. Almost every place of business has a reliable A/C to keep their customers and employees cool. Beyond retail spaces, air conditioning is enjoyed in most common places like airports, universities, malls, and libraries. It’s especially important in scientific laboratories, hospitals, and other sensitive locations that handle biological samples.

Without air conditioning, good luck getting your shopping done. These places of business would be intolerable to visit any time between now and October, and they very well could be dangerous, too, if you suffer from any health problems. Even your own home would be hard to live in as the summer rages on. That’s why it’s so important to make sure your air conditioner is up to the task before the temperatures skyrocket.

Our team of HVAC and appliance repair professionals know air conditioners inside and out. Whether you have central air, a free-standing appliance, or a commercial grade system, one of our experts will make sure the cool air is flowing through your home or place of business properly. A quick maintenance check and tune-up could be all that your appliance needs before it’s ready to take on the scorching days of summer. If your A/C is a particularly old model, we’re also fully qualified to take on major repairs and replacements. To ensure clean, cool air is available for everyone, we offer rental programs and professional financing in addition to our maintenance services.

Southwestern Ontario sees its fair share of extreme weather. No stranger to 40 degree weather with elevated humidity levels, it’s an area that relies on air conditioning more than the rest of the country. Naturally, as we enter the hotter months, many of us will lower the temperatures in our homes. During especially intense heat waves, our air conditioners will be operating at all hours, which can put undue strain on their internal workings. Like any other machine, an A/C unit can break down under these conditions. We understand our reliance on these systems is as much about health as they are about comfort, which means many of us can’t wait for the next business day until we get their A/C fixed. That’s why we provide emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our team of repair experts are available at any time – day or not – to provide reliable, affordable, and efficient repairs in addition to basic tune-ups. When you’re ready to beat the heat, give us a call. We’ll ensure your A/C is up to the task this June – and beyond!

The Features of a Quality HVAC Company

When something goes wrong with your furnace, air conditioner, or any other part of your HVAC system, it can be a chore to find the right company to help you. There’s no end to HVAC companies that offer services in your area, but you can’t trust all of them in your home. A number of HVAC repair companies lack the professionalism to complete a job correctly, efficiently, and affordably. We don’t want you to spend any more money than you have to on your repairs or maintenance, which is why we’ve developed an easy way to identify a superior service. We’ve made it simple so you don’t have to expend any more effort than you have to.

You don’t live in a vacuum, so don’t go about looking for an HVAC company as if you do. Speak to your neighbours, your family, and your friends to see if they’ve hired a service that they would recommend. You can even ask your real estate agent or a local contractor for their advice, too. They will have done business with many HVAC companies over the years and probably have a long list of reputable names to choose from. As you speak to more people, you can start to understand the profile of a stellar HVAC company.

Supplement these referrals with your own research and cross-reference the names that your loved ones suggest. You can search the Yellow Pages of your phone book for companies – that is, if you still have one of those. Not many of us do, which is why the Internet is a much better alternative. Whereas the Yellow Pages will only provide you with the contact information of a company, the Internet will have online reviews separate from the company’s website. That way you can get an unbiased opinion on any of the companies that you want to know more about. These reviews should reveal the quality and efficiency of their work as well as their overall reputation.

Don’t forego the website in its entirety, however. It’s still a good source of information that might be missing in an average review. They should be a Better Business Bureau accredited business (we boast a rating of A+ – the highest on their scale – with zero complaints!) and have several years of business under their belt. This is to prove that their technicians have the appropriate knowledge and expertise of heating and cooling systems.

Next on the docket is investigating their employees. You don’t need to produce your own episode of the Fifth Estate in order to complete this. Simply calling the service and asking the right questions will be enough. Our receptionists are always courteous and polite when they answer the phone, and they take the time to listen to your problems. They’ll be able to answer every question you have about our insurance, our licensing, pricing, and references. We pride on ourselves on our ability to complete affordable, efficient, and quality repairs and maintenance. In order to do that, we keep up to date with all of our insurances and licenses. Since we deliver first-rate service, our references will always reflect that.

If you’re ready to hear from our references or learn about our pricing, licensing, or insurance, pick up the phone. One of our friendly and knowledgeable receptionists is ready to take your call.

Keep Your HVAC System in Mind during This Year’s Spring Cleaning

Many of us in the GTA take advantage of the warm, sunny days of spring to finally tackle all of the things we’ve neglected over the winter. With the windows open wide, and a fresh breeze blowing through your home, there’s no better time to clean it – top to bottom. As you add things like dusting light fixtures, washing linen, and de-cluttering the office to your spring cleaning routine, don’t forget your HVAC system. If all goes well, it’s a simple addition to your list that will have a profound effect on the quality of air in your home and improve the overall feeling of freshness you’ve created in the big clean.

First on the docket is your furnace. As it’s usually stored somewhere far and away from your usual day-to-day activities, it’s probably been awhile since you’ve last inspected it – let alone cleaned it. Even if it’s been a couple of months since you last changed the filter, it can collect quite a bit of dust. Luckily, there’s a simple fix for that and it only involves your vacuum. Make sure to use the appropriate hose attachment to get all of the hard to reach areas, so you leave no area untouched. You’ll also want to open up its panels to uncover the motor, blower, and other internal mechanics. Be careful as you use the hose to suck up any dust that’s collected in these areas.

Once this is done, you can move on to the furnace’s filter. As this is the part of the furnace that prevents dander, mould, dust, pollen, and other allergens from flowing through its ducts, you’ll want to make sure it’s clean. By the time winter changes over to spring, your last filter will be pretty dirty and need to be replaced. You can find its replacement at your local hardware store for relatively cheap. Remember to note down the size you need before you leave!

Once your furnace is ready for spring, it’s time to turn your sights outdoors. It might not seem like it now, but in only a few months’ time, you’ll be struggling with the hot and humid weather of summer. In order to avoid melting like a popsicle you’ll most likely have your air conditioner blasting. If you’re an avid gardener, then you probably already have a long list of springtime maintenance to get to outside, and cleaning up your A/C should be added to your chores.

You can ensure your A/C unit is prepared for the heat by taking the time to clean it of debris. Make sure no fallen ice has damaged the unit itself and clear it of any sticks, leaves, or other debris that winter winds may have blown around it. That way, once the mercury rises and you need relief, you only need to make an appointment with one of our technicians to give you the go ahead before turning on your A/C.

The final step in your HVAC spring cleaning is to give us a call if you’ve noticed any linger problems with your furnace or new ones with your air conditioner. A quick call to our expert technicians will solve any of the issues you’ve noticed befalling your HVAC system. Together, we can make sure your home is ready for spring – and every season after that!

Cut Down on Energy Costs with a Heat Pump

Though the temperatures may be warming up, the bite of winter is still with us – or, more accurately, the bite that winter took out of our wallets is still affecting our budgets. Many Canadians who are faced with rising heating bills will search for new ways to lower their utilities. One such way is installing a heat pump into your home.

A heat pump is one of the most cost and energy efficient ways to heat your home because it doesn’t generate any heat on its own. That means it doesn’t rely on any fossil fuels or electricity to warm the rooms of your house. Instead, it extracts warm air from the outside and pumps it into your home. Yes, even in the middle of a Canadian winter there’s enough heat in the air for a pump to exploit. In fact, it can still find heat when the temperature drops to -27° Celsius. But don’t worry. Should the temperature drop even further, your furnace will kick in to pick up the slack.

A heat pump works similarly to a refrigerator. Have you ever stood next to its coils and felt the hot air blowing? The same heat extracting principles that power a heat pump are at work. In this case, your fridge is a one-way heat pump that extracts warm air from the cabinet to keep the inside of the refrigerator as cool as a cucumber.

A professionally installed heat pump, however, is more complex than the one-way pump that exists in your fridge. Its split system works to move the appropriate air to where it needs to go. That means in the winter, warm air from the outside is pushed through house, but during the summer, the opposite occurs. Instead of pulling hot air in, it extracts the warmth that collects in your house during the day and pushes it outside. As a result, a heat pump removes the need for an air conditioner and keeps your home comfortable all year round.

Let’s get down to the numbers. On average, for every dollar you spend on the electricity required to run this appliance, you’ll see $3 in heat savings. If you’re able to heat your home entirely by your heat pump, you can cut heating costs in half! Of course, the actual savings will depend on your climate and the efficiency and size of the heat pump you’ve installed.

Not sure what heat pump is best for your home? We’ve got you covered. We can assess the needs of your home and compare it to the GTA’s climate in order to determine which make and model is the most appropriate for your situation. All of our heat pumps are high-efficiency Energy Star appliances to increase the energy savings that you see.

If you’re still not sure about the benefits of installing a heat pump in your home, give us a call or send us an email. Our representatives are happy to discuss the advantages (and disadvantages) to using a heat pump, so you can better ascertain if this appliance is for you.

Buying A New Furnace? Consider Our Purchase Financing

In a perfect world, your household needs would match up with your household budget. In reality, that’s rarely the case. Sometimes you have enough wriggle room to allocate some funds to help you make necessary repairs and upgrades; but when it comes to larger items, like a new furnace, the cost is simply too much. When a new furnace can run at anywhere between $2,000 and $14,000, you may put off buying one for as long as possible.

That may seem like a good enough plan while your furnace is young and running well. Eventually, however, your furnace will get to an age when you can’t put off its replacement any longer. The average lifespan is somewhere between 18 and 22 years. As yours approaches its maturity, you run the risk of inefficient heat circulation, inflated utility costs, and an outright breakdown that can leave your home freezing during the winter months.

Despite knowing the expected lifespan of your furnace, it can be difficult to set aside enough savings to cover its replacement. Other repairs and renovations can take precedence over your furnace, leaving you with little leftover to play with. If you can’t cover the full cost of a new furnace, you’re not sentenced to living with an old, failing appliance for the rest of your life. We’ve made it easy and affordable to get a great furnace, regardless of your financial situation.

We have furnace financing options that help you cover the cost of any new furnace. Instead of purchasing the furnace outright, you’ll pay only a small fraction of the total cost every month for 24 months. The cost covers installation, parts, and labour and doesn’t include interest or up-front fees. By breaking up your payments over the course of two years, your budget can accommodate the price of a new furnace.

Our helpful financing program brings you the option of getting a new furnace when money is tight—without any sacrifices. By financing your furnace with us you don’t have to make any concessions about the appliance you choose. You can finance the best furnace on the market, including energy efficient options in natural gas, electric, and oil models. In fact, we encourage that you finance an Energy Star rated appliance, as it can significantly increase your energy savings on your utility bills. Most importantly, these furnaces will work best to keep your home warm and cosy during the coldest months.

Not sure which energy efficient model you should finance? We’re here to help. We understand it can be a challenge to make this kind of decision on your own. Our experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly representatives will go over your options, so you have the tools to make the best decision for your current and future goals.

To see if you’re pre-approved for our financing, fill out our quick and convenient form on our website. It requires basic personal and financial information, like your name, address, current employment, and mortgage balance so have that ready. If you have any questions about the process, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We can explain how our easy financing works and walk you through our online application.
